September-October Beginner Tournament

Postby An'grathul » Thu 07 Sep, 2017 10:24 am

Hey everyone,

While hanging around the public lobbies for the past month and a half, I've noticed a lot of new players having a go at both DoW II and Elite mod. I don't know whether it has something to do with recoil about DoW III or the holidays, but I coulden't be more delighted to see so much new blood. It would be a terrible shame to let this influx of players go to waste, so, to give these new players a motivation to practice and a place to find good opponents I would like to organise a new Beginner Tournament.

For the time being I'd like to get an idea about possible participants and the dates people are able to play. To be eligible for the tournament and to keep things fair I was thinking about a 400 hours played limit for contestants. Players below 700 hours that think themselves suited to the level of play can always PM and we'll have a look in-game.

Current Player pool:

Hesus
Belial
Jeffers
Mithras
Reineke
I want to Die
Bozmat
Philippus12
Antandron
Hrachos
Captain Harlock
Andrea [WIC]
Sinisterlaugh
Kami

As for the dates
It's been decided the tournament will be held on the 22nd of October to allow most people to participate and practice!

As for the starting time, we'll go with a 20:00 CEST start.

The format of the contest will be Bo3 with a Bo5 finals with a winner's and losers bracket as rounds progress.
For now, if you're interested feel free to post your interest and three preferred heroes to play in the tournament. For questions and participations feel free to add me and PM me over steam.

EXAMPLE:

Player: An'grathul
Heroes: Warlock, Farseer, Sorceror

I hope to see many beginners called to battle! If enough contestants show themselves we could already think about hosting some unofficial prelims to get some matches in and test the waters. If any casters are interested, your patronage would be appreciated.

IN SHORT

Date: 22nd of October
Time: 20:00 CEST

Greetings,
An'grathul

I have been seeing lots of Ideas and lots of tournaments 1v1,2v2,3v3 (FW)
sounds promising
I hope they help the community so it expands more, the dawn of war 2 elite mod community I mean

PS: would be good if we saw some retail (Dow2retri) as well I myself prefer elite, but retail has a large number of players and can be maneuvered upon as well

Hey everyone,

Quick update; I'm keeping an eye on participants and I'm happy to see we're working towards a fair number. Thanks for the tips, Rostam, I'll look into your suggestions. By the end of this week I'll also update the main post to include participants, format and other details. Due to me falling on my stupid ass IRL I'm having a bit of difficulty typing quickly due to the scabs and a sprained arm muscle, so that's why I've been a bit slower than usual.

For the time being I'd like to ask participants to add me on steam if they haven't yet (some folks are hard to find) and I'd like to specify that for the time being the dates in October seem to be the most practical for most contestants.

If u wanna improve ur tourney i suggest u get someone to stream it as well
dont be too hard on streaming if u have a good internet and u have a twitch account, that will suffice for a stream; u can stream it even if u dont wanna commentate. it is enough for people to see the games

Also tell people to write their steam id so u can follow them and call them for the event, some brackets would link would be good as well,MTT is on October 7th ;mb u can do this on October 15th

Good job at putting this together, An'grathul. Didn't think we would get another beginners tournament going, so I'm glad to be proved wrong.

I'd volunteer to stream but it's not a good weekend for me.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.
