Able to replicate SB
Able to replicate SB
Im pretty sure I am able to replicate the sound bug. I never have SB, but as soon as I turn on a stream in my browser in the background, it starts to happen to both me and the other players. It happens so often that it cant be coincidance, I literally cant play more than 3 games with my browser open.

Re: Able to replicate SB
Soundbug can happen for multiple reasons. I had it for a graphics setting once in my GPU software. Was fixed by Relic a long time ago. I also had it whenever I unplug a device from my splitter I got for audio.
Re: Able to replicate SB
Sound bug happens when the game cannot play all the sounds it's meant to correctly and therefore crashes.
Ofc if you saturate the soundlist even more by playing something else in the background (music, stream or whatever) then it will happen.

I have never soundbug in retail, also I tried to change sound cards (integrated, usb, headphones) and the sound bug happens the same!
I have now mounted a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme gamer: no improvement!

Just happened again. Maybe it has multiple reasons, but for me it has definitly something to do with by browser, or more specific with watching streams in the background. If browser is closed, I not hat a SB once

Think of it as a mystery you have to solve. You're a detective.

no mystery, when incompetent game developers improvise, strange things then happen .....

cause it's not a hardware problem. it's something implemented in elite. maybe some new sfx file

Re: Able to replicate SB
should investigate logs in game's documents folder
Re: Able to replicate SB
SB happens in retail too.
When i looked at the logs a while ago i saw a ton of "buffer overflow" (or something like it) messages throughout my games, until eventually it would crash. It makes it sound like a memory exception error, where the game tries to use more RAM than the OS will allow. It started happening very frequently for me after a windows update about a year ago, and almost completely stopped after I ran another major update 6 months later. It kinda makes me think there is a security thing interfering with how games can handle sound, but IDK
I definitely noticed more SBs if i had a youtube video or something in the background

It is nothing to do with elite... It was the final Relic patch that introduced it
Lets make Ordo Malleus great again!

"For what it's worth, I'm playing on Linux Mint 20.3 and playing Retribution using unofficial Proton GE 6.1 for Windows games compatibility. Playing on Linux makes you immune to soundbug, and version Proton GE 6.1 makes you immune to Linux desync problems."

Re: Able to replicate SB
we can migrate to linux and play on a portal dedicated to dawn of war retribution without making complicated installations on linux, I tried to play with it but there are 0 users unfortunately !!!! I'm looking for someone interested in trying this portal!
I'm not sure but we could playing on European servers instead of lagging on those fucking American servers; I repeat I need some volunteers to do some tests!

I've tried Linux before. It's easy to install. What's complicated is troubleshooting

Being out of Steam wouldn't change anything. It's just another store.

Re: Able to replicate SB
Tried putting Steam friends on 'Do Not Disturb' and never checked any messages while ingame. No soundbug for a few days now. Signing out of Steam friends would do the same thing. Can others check to see if this works.

Re: Able to replicate SB
Personally, I don't have a problem migrating to Linus. Quite the contrary, but this would be the end for new(er) players coming in the game, imo.
I prefer working around the sb than signing the death warrant of the elite-mod-community.

Re: Able to replicate SB
i think we should study more the logs. i think there are some sfx issue wich causes a loop and overwhelms sound buffers.
