Clan Wars Generic Ruleset & Info Guide

Postby Torpid » Wed 11 Sep, 2019 11:23 pm

The following guide details the none-specific, generic ruleset for the clan wars events. Specific clan wars themselves may have different rulesets based on the host of that event. Those will be detailed in a thread specific for that clan war.

4.0 - Clan Wars Format
Event Schedule
One clan war event is upheld once in 3 months.
4 Clans are involved.
Each clan must face a different clan for every event.

4.2 - Accommodating Time Zone Difference
There are 3 time zones range to consider: Asia, America and Europe.
At best, only 2 zones can be matched together for players in those time zones to be able to comfortably play so that they don’t have to come online during 12 pm(midnight) ~ 7 am(morning) in their local time.
Trying to reconcile all 3 results in one time zone’s players having to wake up really early or stay really late into the night.
The event should be held on Saturday preferably which is Sunday morning time for Asian players.
It is a proven fact that UTC 1700 pm is good for America, Europe players.

4.3 - Fixed Rules
Rules under 4.3 category must be followed and altering it is strictly not allowed. Know that not following these rules directly harm the purpose of holding a Clan War.
Each available member should play at least once in any game mode.
Those who need to leave quickly after a match or two must be given a priority when deciding who plays first.
Clan members can freely leave and come during matches.

4.4 - Alterable Rules
Rules under 4.4 category are there only as a recommendation and an example. Below settings are all alterable according to Clan Masters’ wishes to fit the demand on the day.

4.4.1 - Number of Matches
Number of matches are decided by the number of players available by each clan.
The priority is given to the clan who has the least number of players available.
Example
- Clan A and B are duking it out. Clan A have 3 players and Clan B have 9 Players. In this case, the number of match is the one for 3 ~ 5 Players because Clan A have 3 players.

Minimum number of members required for attendance is 3 for each clan.
If there are less than 3 members present, the event is cancelled.
If possible doing simultaneous games is recommended.

4.4.2 - 3v3 / 2v2 Rules
Game Settings
Victory Point Control: 500 VPs
Starting Location: Random
Resources: Standard

Hero Picking
The team with higher ranking picks all heroes first every match.
If the rating is a tie, players decide among themselves.
Map Picking
The team with lower ranking picks map every match.
If the rating is a tie, players decide among themselves.
Map can only be picked from the map pool. Map pool is decided by Clan Masters.

4.4.3 - 1v1 Rules
Game Settings
Victory Point Control: 500 VPs
Starting Location: Random
Resources: Standard

Hero Picking
The player with higher ranking picks hero first every match.
If the rating is a tie, players decide among themselves.

Map Picking
The player with lower ranking picks map every match.
If the rating is a tie, players decide among themselves.
Map can only be picked from the map pool. Map pool is decided by Clan Masters.
4.5 - Deciding the victor of the day
The winning clan of the day is decided by the average Game Points earned by each Clan..
Game Points are awarded according to the table below.
Game Points should be summed up and divided by the number of matches played on the day.
Uneven numbers are rounded up rounded up to the first digit after the decimal point.
The clan with bigger average Game Points is the victor.
If average Game Points are in a tie, you can either declare a draw or decide it by the final match.
Victor here means you won against the matched up clan. Do not compare the score with other two clans who duked it out separately on the day.

Game Points
When judging who had more rating for team games, ratings of all of the participating members should be summed up and divided by the number of participating members in the team.
Example
Clan 1 - Player A (50), Player B(30), Player C(15) = (50+30+15)/3 = 32
Clan 2 - Player D (80), Player E(50), Player F(5) = (80+50+5)/3 = 45
45 - 32 = 13 Rating Difference

4.6 - Deciding the champion clan of the Season
At the end of a season(After 6 Clan Wars), clans sum up their average Game Points from all events and divide it by the number of events they partaken during the season to make the average out of it.
Uneven numbers are rounded up rounded up to the first digit after the decimal point.
The clan with the most average Game Points is declared the champion clan of the Season.

5. Rating System
General Introduction
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECF_grading_system
Each player will be rated according to the ECF system. However, ECF is for managing ratings for 1v1 so it has to be modified for team game purposes. For applying 1v1 results, we can use the original ECF.
I chose ECF for rating system because of inherent simplicity of the ECF Grading System. One of the benefits it has over the ELO rating system used by FIDE, is the ability to calculate performance grades before, or after the game result without the need for specialist software or a calculator.
The modified system is as described below.

Modified ECF for Team Games
Every competitive game played under the ECF system results in a performance grade for each player, equal to
The average of opposing team’s grade - 50 + 100n
where n is the result of the game from their point of view which is 1 for winning and 0 for losing.
Each member of one team will lose as many points relative to their own grade as the other gains which is 30 for below example case.
Example
Team A which is graded on average 160 beats Team B which is graded on average 140.
Team A (200 + 100 + 80 = 480)/3 = 160
Team B (200 + 150 + 70 = 420)/3 = 140
Team A's performance grade is 140 - 50 + (100x1) = 190
Team B's is 160 - 50 + (100x0) = 110.
Team A’s rate after the match 190 - 160(Original Rate) = 30.
+ 30 rate for each team member.
Team B’s rate after the match 110 - 140(Original Rate) = -30.
- 30 rate for each team member.
Proviso
Grades more than 40 points different from one's own grade are considered to be exactly 40 points different when calculating performance grades.
This prevents players increasing their grade by losing to much higher-graded players and also means that the stronger player's grade cannot go down when winning.
Example
Team A which is graded on average 160 beats Team B which is graded on average 100. There is a 60 rate difference so the special rule is applied.
Team A's performance grade is 120 - 50 + (100x1) = 170.
160 - 40 = 120 (When the winner’s rating is bigger than the loser’s)
+ 40 (When the winner’s rating is smaller than the loser’s)
Team B's is 140 - 50 + (100x0) = 90.
100 + 40 = 140 (When the winner’s rating is bigger than the loser’s)
- 40 (When the winner’s rating is smaller than the loser’s)
Team A’s rate after the match 170 - 160(Original Rate) = 10.
+ 10 rate for each team member.
Team B’s rate after the match 90 - 100(Original Rate) = -10.
- 10 rate for each team member.

Rating Method for 1v1
Calculations for 1v1 rating is exactly the same as the one for team game one except the part of averaging the rating for the whole team.
Example
The opponent’s grade - 50 + 100n
Final Rating
After the clan war is finished, ratings earned or lost by each player during the event are averaged by the number of matches played by the player.
Ratings are shared for 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3.
Calculated averages are rounded up to the whole number.
Rating change after each match should not be applied to the next match. If a player started out with rating of 10, his rating in calculation must always be 10 throughout all the matches.
Example
Player A won two 3v3s, one 1v1 while losing one 3v3 with following scores.
3v3 Win: +50, +30
3v3 Loss: +5
1v1 Win: +10
Player A’s final rating is (50 + 30 + 5 + 10)/4 = +24 rating after the event.
Tier System
High Tier - Designated Players Only
Mid Tier - (76 ~ 200) Rating
Low Tier - (0 ~ 75) Rating
Ratings are capped at 200 Rating.
High Tier Players & Mid Tier Players are designated by Clan Masters.
High Tier Players start at 150 Rating.
High Tier Players cannot go down below 150 Rating.
Mid Tier Players start at 75 Rating.
All other clan members except designated high tier and mid tier players start at 0 rating.
Rating cannot go down below 0.

Updating ratings step by step
1/ It is team game
Step 1) Get an average rating for each team
Step 2) Compare average numbers

Step 3) If average rating difference between two teams is less than 41
Step 3.1) The average of the winning team’s rating - 50
Step 3.2) Result of 3.1) - The average of the losing team’s rating
Step 3.3) You should get a minus number
Step 3.4) Give this minus number to each member of the losing team
Step 3.5) Give opposing plus value to each member of the winning team

Step 4) If average rating difference between two teams is more than 40
Step 4.1)
(When the winning team’s average rating is bigger than the losing team’s)
The average of the losing team’s rating + 40 - 50
(When the winning team’s average rating is smaller than the losing team’s)
The average of the losing team’s rating - 40 - 50
Step 4.2) Result of 4.1) - The average of the losing team’s rating
Step 4.3) You should get a minus number
Step 4.4) Give this minus number to each member of the losing team
Step 4.5) Give opposing plus value to each member of the winning team

2/ It is 1v1
Step 1) Compare ratings of two players

Step 2) If rating difference between two players is less than 41
Step 2.1) Winner’s rating - 50
Step 2.2) Result of 2.1) - Loser’s rating
Step 2.3) You should get a minus number
Step 2.4) Give this minus number to the loser
Step 2.5) Give opposing plus value to the winner

Step 3) If rating difference between two players is more than 40
Step 3.1)
(When the winner’s rating is bigger than the loser’s)
Loser’s rating + 40 - 50
(When the winner’s rating is smaller than the loser’s)
Loser’s rating - 40 - 50
Step 3.2) Result of 3.1) - Loser’s rating
Step 3.3) You should get a minus number
Step 3.4) Give this minus number to the loser
Step 3.5) Give opposing plus value to the winner
3/ After every match calculation is done
You should get something like below for each player.
Player A: (-10), 25, 5, (-30)
Player A’s rating before the clan war: 50
Step 1) Get an average rating
((-10) + 25 + 5 - 30)/4 = -3
Calculated averages are rounded up to the whole number.
Step 2) Subtract or add to the rating before the clan war according to the value
50 - 3 = 47
Step3) Update Tier if applicable
(101 ~ 200) rating is Mid Tier while Low Tier is (0 ~ 100) rating. High Tier can only be earned by being designated as one by Clan Masters.

4/ Watch out for special rules
Ratings cannot go down below 0.
Ratings are capped at 200 Rating.
High Tier Players cannot go down below 150 Rating.
High Tier Players start at 150 Rating.
Mid Tier Players start at 75 Rating.
All other clan members except designated high tier and mid tier players start at 0 rating.
