Elite Mod on Steam
Hello,
I don't know where to post this, so I am hoping Its okay to post it here.
I wondering why Elite mod isn't on steam? There are other Relic mods on steam for Company of Heroes. If you search Company of Heroes in steam, and filter by mod, you would get 3 results. It would be totally awesome if I could auto download updates.

Re: Elite Mod on Steam
This is a really good question actually. If you subscribe to a mod from the Steam workshop it will auto-update, thus allowing fixes and micropatches etc. to be applied much faster.

lol I never noticed that, rip.

There isn't workshop support for company of heroes either. That game is much older. These mods are stand alone that require the main game, just like Elite mod.
Re: Elite Mod on Steam
However there are COH Mods that can be found on steam, such as Europe at War here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/342370/
How do they work?

Right, I would like to know this also. I've seen mods on Steam Greenlight and they made it on steam. Relic has already sanctioned this game, I don't see why we can't just through it on Greenlight and get it on steam.

Indrid or anyone else from the team could clarify this. It would really help out the community if this mod was on steam.
Re: Elite Mod on Steam
We're exploring the possibility. No promises.

Any progress on this? I can use my contacts I have with Relic from when I was on GR if you haven't already reached out to them.

Please use that contact if you can. Don't think we have much progress in this matter.

I've sent him a message, but that CoH mod was put up with Greenlight. Greenlight has since been retired and now there's Steam Direct.

Edit: He basically just said that it needs Steam Workshop, which the game doesn't have.

Re: Elite Mod on Steam
From what we can tell, we might have to pay a fee and get it set up. Not sure if worth the effort, and there's legal complications.

Re: Elite Mod on Steam
Has anybody contacted Relic about this?
Re: Elite Mod on Steam
Relic won't care at all and besides do we really want them to break this game more?
Forums great more stuff to talk about.

Re: Elite Mod on Steam
We will need them to agree though because of aforementioned legal issues. And since this is supposed to appear on their store site...well, you get where I am coming from.

We're considering publishing via Steam direct, which means it would turn up in the store with a new appid. Steam workshop isn't required, as you can see on the Europe at War page you linked. So afaik the concern is not a technical one but whether there's any risk of legal trouble. We definitely need to hear from Relic/Sega before moving forward imo. Also kudos to the kind donor willing to cover the $100 fee.
Re: Elite Mod on Steam
This just seems a lot of work and cost for what?
What we got right now work fine why risk this?

It. Might bring more players to DoW as it shows that this game is far from dead? It doesn't hurt now does it?
I would be willing to pay a few bucks as well. Where would I donate?

Re: Elite Mod on Steam
In order to do this. We need to know 4 things.
1. Is there any legal complications for asking to relic/Sega?
ex) Can they shut down elite mod just because we asked we can post there?
- I don't think it is likely because we are not earning any money out of this thing but it is safe to know is there any chance of them shutting down elite on purpose when we ask them about this elite on steam matter.
2. If there is no threat of them shutting down this mod when we ask, We should first ask them whether we can post on it or not.
- If they say no, not much we can do.
- If they say yes you can post on steam, then we can move on to next question.
3. How much does it cost?
- Atlas and I have a certain acquaintance who can help us with donations for this if it is not overly expensive.
4. Is it technically possible?
Better start with our first question.

Re: Elite Mod on Steam
For point one it seeks Sega/relic would hold the cards. From a little internet reading it would appear that any mod is a copyright infringement.
I guess the question is whether they are going to suffer or fear suffering financial loss.
One argument is that it will promote and sell more copies and if the modders are not making money off the IP then you would think that there would be no problems an they might support it.
The flip side is they may feel it may draw people away from other titles e.g. DOW 3 and therefore may not support it.
There is one other aspect that i can think off, and that is the inclusion of extra GW IP in the mod that wasn't in the original. Not really sure where you would stand on that one. There could be an implication for sega/relic if they are seen to be allowing unlicensed IP in a mod.
My final thought is that if they had an issue with the mod it would be shut down by now. It is clear that itbis is known by the developers. They may decide they don't want to promote it but I think it would be strange if they shut it down just for asking.
Having said all this I am no expert or have no legal training (disclaimer alert)

As long as asking do not lead to shutting down of this mod, we should ask first.

Re: Elite Mod on Steam
Considering that Relic (iirc) released the mod tools and helped with some stuff by providing tips back then, I doubt they will try to shutdown the mod.

Re: Elite Mod on Steam
I agree I find it hard to believe they would shut it down for just asking. I can't really see them having an issue but companies aren't always flexible as they have policies in place.
Re: Elite Mod on Steam
Relic let the eastern front mod alone even when coh2 came out. This mod is keeping The game alive. That and the failure of dow3.

Oh Snap! This thread is making me excited. I will pay the fee, I don't have a problem with that, its only 100 bucks. I am going message Kat on the Dawn of war Forums this thread. My Steam id is Seed of Power, if any of us get the legal go ahead, message me to arrange payment.
Re: Elite Mod on Steam
It's more than just Relic, someone needs to take legal ownership of the mod and provide their tax information iirc.

Are there expenses? Other than the 100 upfront? I don't mind doing that either if no one from the dev team is going to.
