Europe in Ruins

Postby NightRain » Sat 04 Jun, 2016 7:36 am

Hey!

Has anyone heard of Europe in Ruins? It is a mod for Company of heroes where you as a player don't build a base nor anything in that matter. You don't cap points for resources but for territory which you use to unlock more popcap over time (Max pop cap is 40).

Heres the kicker. Instead of building things ingame, you build them offline. You build your company beforehand. In short you get X amount of Manpower, munitions and fuel which you spend to construct your armed force. Then once your company is ready you finalize it and then join a game in launcher. Once launcher has its players in it you start the game and choose map and then call in your forces via tabs ingame. You capture territory, hold it and get shoved back and forth in it. The ways to lose it is being outcapped, or simply losing all your forces and getting annihiliated.

In game your only resource that you use and utilize is Popcap. You start with 25 popcap and say riflesquad is 5 pop cap. Pop cap is also the only limit that decides what you have on field. You can start with a tank, you can start with a KT for all you want but the kicker is as follows: If your unit is reduced beneath its combat efficency you can not reinforce it, you have to pull it back. Pulling infantry pack with retreat makes them leave the field and never return so the amount of forces is finite and limited to precisely what you've bought in the launcher. Also each combat means those who survived and killed things gain experience. This experience grows and the units gain veterancy. In the end you can have an entire army made up with Vetted forces, a reward for keeping them alive. Also therei s a leaderboard where you can see other players vetted units and such. An example is beneath of what I mean:

A gameplay video of EIR playstyle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiikXLeeuhk (Old but eh)

Either way, the point to this is to attract your curiousity.

A small crew has noticed that DoW2 works with Corsixs similar of Company of Heroes with some differences, if DOW2 can be SCAR coded, this very same gameplay style can be brought to DoW2 as well. You'd have a launcher, potential campaign map and ability to build up themed companies you wish choose. Whether they are effective or not is entirely up to how it is used and how well enemy companies counter it in field of battle. That is right, space marine chapter of your very own with the strategies you choose to employ or that daemon themed Chaos company with loads of daemons running about, or ork warband filled with dakka or that mechanized IG that relies on chimeras and infantry to roll around. Imagination, resources and popcap on field are only limits you'll face!

The gameplay would be severely different from Vanilla or Elite as the only resource ingame is popcap which limits what you can bring on field. Also resources in your company (everyone has the same) so building say a tac marine spam with launchers is all very well but if it gets suppressed and hard countered it wont be easy to break off as hitting retreat pulls units out of action permanently. Which means gameplay, micro and company building needs more attention and planning beforehand. Like say you have pure infantry and enemy brings in a tank and you have no pop for Anti tank or anything to counter a vehicle in your company... yeah toast. Thus there'd be a lot of stat changes as balance is nightmare with the amount of things in DoW2.

Since there is no teching, no resource point collection or anything you can focus entirely on fighting with a lot larger maps as well to allow more manouver.

If this awoke your interest, do tell me, would this be of interest to DoW2 community? As a veteran EIRR player I can tell that the gameplay is not easy, it is hard, very hard infact as you rely on what you've built beforehand.

This should be posted in Random Stuff, it's not relevant to Elite.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.
