New Doctor Who (Just me isn't it?)

Postby Swift » Sat 23 Aug, 2014 9:25 pm

I saw the first episode today, looks interesting, very odd and full of weird stuff like the first episode always is. I like Peter Capaldi as a Scottish doctor, he plays him more aggressively like Christopher Eccleston did (who I think was a really good doctor). Next episode looks better, has Daleks <3

I am the only one who watches it though aren't I?

What a weird coincidence. Got the seasons now too and my mom was an avid fan in her time.

If you get past the infamous "coopers dream" scene and still remain interested (or like it) you'll probably enjoy the show. That was a jumping off point for many people including my mother, who like most expected it to be a common detective show about a murder mystery. In reality it's something much more strange, fun and interesting. :)

My experience with Doctor Who.

"Every nerd is talking about this series. I need to watch it"
34 seasons plus a movie.
"Well, i guess i'm not going to watch it after all"

Doctor Who (Started at 1963) with 26 seasons
Doctor Who (Rebooted) with 8 seasons

= 34 seasons.

True Story.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Do ... and_series

26 "Seasons" + 8 "Series", i don't get the difference between the two, but whatever, for a total of 801 episodes and a total of over 370 hours of screentime.
That's insane.

Then I guess it's better to start with the Reboot rather than the original 1960's version.

Only reason I know about Dr Who was cause of the, 'Exterminate' R2-D2 thing and Weeping Angels

I don't enjoy being a contrarian or against anything just because of popularity but the Dr Who fandom is so obnoxious that it has turned me off from seeking out the series, sadly.

If you do watch Doctor Who, Chris, watch the early reboot stuff. This will give you a good idea of what it is like, avoid some of the more recent stuff, then when you have watched a bit of reboot stuff, go back to really old Doctor Who and watch a couple of good episodes there. For the reboot I suggest Christopher Eccleston/David Tennant Era with the Matt Smith Weeping Angels episode thrown in.

If you do watch the early reboot stuff then you will come to recognise this lovely guy and his cronies.

Dr. Who holds the record for longest running Scifi show of all time. Longest concurrent show is Stargate sg1 hehe

Because a lot of possibly poor or pointless content would really not work for a anime fan.

Damn right I'll go there.

Oh dear, you're one of those people ):

Also I make no such claims about Doctor Who - all I'm saying is that it's way too long for me to get into at this point in time. I struggle to maintain watching 5-6 episodes that are 20 minutes long a week, let alone 30 seasons of something new. Hell, I'm still stuck on S2 of game of thrones, and I liked the show.

It's just a magical girl retake on the holy grail wars ... kind of ... not really. Haven't started S2. I'm only watching it to satisfy my crave for FSN which airs next season. Might rewatch Fate Zero again as well to get the hype up.

Can I make it clear? If you want to watch Doctor Who just watch the reboot, the old stuff is very good of course but you might as well start somewhere where people will remember the episode.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who_(series_1) This is the wikipedia guide to series 1 (Not season one, that is from 1963, series one is from 2005).
