I dont enjoy spamming the Minor Visual Changes thread with my posts, might as well spam my own thread instead.

Teamcolourable Dire Avengers.
Beside the obvious, the only thing I changed was making the Soulstone on their chest
colourable too.

Sweet. I never got to do it myself because of how lazy I am.

Now I don't want to bother you with silly requests but if you find the time could you recolor the antena thingie as well? The void blackness of it isn't very appealing.

Didnt think about that, since I ( mostly ) recycled Guardian Assets and those dont have one.
I'll propably upload a fixed version tomorrow.

What is the antenna thingy anyway? It's not on Caid's models from his Harlequin mod - plus I believe those ones are teamcolourable also.

More nice work there, what's up next?

Sweet - here's the "Orkissar" head to help with the Blood Axes look - copy the files into the game structure and replace a nobs head with this them rename it if you want to check it out ingame - it will be viewable in the model editor though.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/cpsftvumnuao0lc/Orkissar.rar

Got a request if you could retexture the "wordbearers_chestplates" file to a Tzeentch design like this so I can include it on my Tzeentch dread model?

Image

The current version I have is a crude stopgap measure and something like this would really enhance it. Think you could give it a go perhaps?

The Orkissar looks absolutely great, awesome job on that one.
Also boosts my morale greatly to re-do the Blood Axe skins.

_________

Sure, considering all you've done allready I'll give the Tzeentch Dread a try. But it might take a while.

Do you plan on doing a Tzeentch / Thousand Sons Army Skin pack or an actual replacer for the Mark of Tzeentch Dreadnought upgrade?

No worries just give it a shot and see how it turns out.

I already have a Thousand Sons DLC replacer pack over on my old thread at relicnews and ideally it'll get ported over to elite in one of the future releases. However once the model is done, whether with new skin or old, the team could use it as a visual upgrade when the dread gets a mark. Its really up to them I guess.

Dire Avengers taking a bit longer then expected.

First, it iritated me a bit how the tights and belly area was grey and uncolourable. [ first image ]
Especially since in the TT/Background Avengers are monocrome and fully armored.

So I tied those formally grey spots to the third colour slot. [ second image ]
Most, in fact all pre-existing colourscemes for Eldar use the same colour in the first and third slot. That would give them that solid all-one-colour look they got in the TT/Background.
And it makes them stand out agains the Guardians a bit more.

But if ofcourse also allows to spice in another colour for those who'd like to [ third image ]

_______________________

Secondly, I noticed today that Dire Avengers dont actually got any specular and normal maps. So I'v been spending the morning creating ones for them, I hope this will make especially their mane-thingy a bit more three-dimensional looking.

_____________________________________

Third Problem; whoever did the antenna/scanner thingy on their shoulder didnt bother to mark its layout within the texture file. So, I got to check every black pixel within the Textures till I know it somewhat position.
That means I cant really do too fancy things withit, but I hopefully can make it not completly black/untextured looking.

Teamcolourable Dire Avengers and improved textures.
Added missing specular, normal and oclusion maps.
Armour colours tied to the first and third colour slot.

i don't know how familiar you are with texture work but when you need to find where something unwraped on a texture you put a coloured and numbered checker box pattern down and see what shows up on an area in game. the idea being that each box is different from it's neighbor and any boxes that have the same colour have different numbers. makes these kind of things a LOT easier.

good work though.

Nice indeed. I'm surprised there were no spc maps for them.

Anyway since they use the same body as Fire Dragons perhaps the texture could be assigned to them as well. But then again they might become harder to distinguish.

Yeah, thats kinda what I tried. But I feel the model of the scanner was just both too small and too complex for me too work any details in.

I put a simple texture and normal map over the area where it should be, but I cant be arsed at this point to forexample locate all the edges and cornes and give em highlights or details like that. Thats still a bit too much for me right now.

I'm surprised there were no spc maps for them.

Well, technically there were, but it was just the Guardian ones copied over, and stuff like leg and shoulder textures where placed where ones for their helmet should have been.
I didnt have to re-do the entire model, but Dire Avenger specific stuff like the scanner/antenna and the crest.

Edit: I still dont have a whole lot experience with half of these maps, but I hope I hit a good balance.

Anyway since they use the same body as Fire Dragons perhaps the texture could be assigned to them as well. But then again they might become harder to distinguish.

I for one really like the Fire Dragon textures. I think their colourable helmet is enough.
I guess you could re-work it in a way that their helmet uses the primary colour, ( right now its the secondary ) to make it easier to tell what player they belong to.
But IMHO I would change much more about them.

Can you make the medics a separate resource instead of replacement? I have to fiddle with it a lot to avoid replacing normal sergeants.

I guess I would if I knew whats required to do so.

My understanding of "modding" DoW2 so far ends with editing textures and renaming/replacing files.

Sorry :(

Edit:

You'd have to ask someone more experienced or give me an indefinnable amount of time to figure it out.

Edit Edit: maybe I manage to do so tomorrw, will try.

I can help out with that - just make a copy of the model and direct it to the new textures in Santos Model editor.

Well, I guess I'm half way there.

I created a new entry (?) in the model editor, called "death_korps_medic" based on ( a copy ) of a grenadier mesh and got it to load the new/edited textures. Saved in its own little folder under the same name, I guess so far so good?

But I dont know how to go on from here.

The death korps medic is a combination between the DK Grenadier Mesh and the ( DK Sergeant one.

Pretty much the grenadier just put ontop of it. I got no idea how combine both meshes now / tell it load both.

Right now my medic is mostly floating armour plating.

If your thingies need both custom models and textures:

1. Rename all your folders into something appropriate that doesn't overwrite existing models. You don't need to rename the models/textures.

2. Open each model in Model Editor and update the texture paths accordingly.

I really hope I got it right. Renamed folders, updated texture paths.

The Cadian Medic comes in two pieces, head and armour,
and the death korp medic in three, all under armour.

I really, really hope I didnt screw it up.

Nice work on the Bloodaxe nob. Perhaps remove the checkered pattern for more camo too, as its more of a Goff look. Will try and do a few more ork models, Bloodaxe boyz and perhaps have a crack at some Deathskulls too.
