Hey guys, i am new to the DOW community! I love the DOW games and recently came across Ingrid Casts on YouTube.
Downloaded the Mod and i am loving It. I am playing custom private games against the CPU as much as i can. I am completely hooked.
My questions are:
How can i improve to be a good player? Are there any build orders like in Starcraft? Is playing against the CPU good to get some skills in Future multiplayer games? Is there a Guide using the Mod paramatters? How do I become a more active user un this community and are the skill lvl brackets?
I am brazilian, so, shout out to the brazilian ppl in the community.
Thanks in advance and credit belongs to the emperor.

hey, welcome to the community.

I recommend you join the community discord. Someone will probably give you the link soon.
Before playing online, beat the expert AI with ease. Even the worst player online are better then expert AI.
On the discord, get yourself a 'initiate' role, and look for games there. As a initiate, you will be loosing
a lot of games. Thats normal, dont let it bother you

Some advises on how to start as a new player.
Firstly, find players to play with at the discord channel. https://discord.gg/jKVfpj3
Secondly, give yourself an initiate tag by going to roles channel.
Thirdly, play on friday, weekends and during European night time.
Fourthly, download the newest patch from http://www.dawnofwar.info forum's release section.
Fifthly and most importantly, add everyone you meet on elite mod as a steam friend.

Looking for game is done on general channel. Directly messaging players tagged under initiate role which you can find on the right side member list is also recommended. Those who have initiate role is separately sectioned on the member list.
As long as you don't fall into the fallacy that assuming no one is around because you don't see any rooms hosted on public in game, you will be able to find games. There are enough players but no one wants to host and wait indefinitely so normal gaming routine of if I see a room, join and if I don't see one, quit does not work in this game. One should inform players in Discord to get a game like I mentioned above. If some players you played with in game were nice to you, add them as Steam friends. Rinse and repeat this process until you got enough Steam friends and you will be able to find games anytime you want.

DoW2 Retribution is the only game you require to buy for multiplayer. No other games or DLCs needed. Elite Mod is also required but it is free as it is a mod. The mod can be acquired via below route.
http://www.dawnofwar.info - forum - releases

Retribution is the second and the last expansion of DOW2. It is a standalone expansion which means you do not need previous iterations for it to work. However, patches stopped for Retribution in 2012 thus players made Elite mod to continue patching. This is why Elite mod is also needed for playing multiplayer as unmodded Retribution is largely abandoned aside from single play purposes. This is same for Original DOW2 and Chaos Rising the first expansion. They are used for only single player.

The primary function of the Elite mod is a continued balance patch support for high level 1v1 scene. However, it also adds some new stuff as well.
A ton of bug fixes
New faction added - Ordo Malleus(Grey Knights)
New units, wargears, skills and globals for each faction
New unit portraits
New army skins
New maps
A ladder system with ratings
And most importantly, community support
such as replays casted on Youtube, Regular tournaments and other events with streamers on Twitch, a regulated Discord server and a forum website

HIGHLY recommend to read viewtopic.php?f=11&t=718

there are some main branches - you go beefy meat or u go zoggy sparkling tech.

Means how much gens u drop and how soon u do it.

so u want meat - no gens, u want one t 1.5 unit like setup team or jumpers - u got one gen

u go freakin T2 - drop the gens MORE GENS TO THE GENS GOD!

but the main thing in this game is map control / stayin on the map. so if u're always retreating - means u take bad fights - means lose. also u can win almost all fights but sneaky flamers fry your gen farm = you lost tons of resourses/power = enemy got more advanced tech u can't answer = gg.

Also an advice to all new players = you should play your games until you see an opportunity to fight, cause if you give up early - becomes that you fought 1000000 of beginnings and 0 of ends. You need experience on all tiers of the game to know it well, and to get enough mass to right decisions.

Thanks for the replies and advices!
I have a strange question tough.
Are there any time Stamps for going tier 2 or 3?
I have been practicing against expert CPUs and noticed that they go tier 3 faster then me, eventough I Control the match/pace if the Game. They always have a predator idle in they base.
CPU do not Power bash too. In Ingrid Casts its something vital.
I am playing space marines and once I have sternguard and vanguard veterans is pretty much Game over for te CPU, since they only attack with t1 ir t2 units.
I am playing 500 VPs, in other modes os the CPU more agressive? Which Mode should I practice to improve for the multiplayer experience?
Ty guys!

Well, cpu expert mode is "cheated" cos resources grow faster than yours so bot get t3 always before you!Play vs hard player only if u want a fair match!
And remember when u play vs other player u r playing on sega server (very bad servers) so u will get always latency when ,for example,u press "x" button to save your squads! I got 9 ms of ping on fortnite servers and 140-150 on sega servers !

AI cheat with resources that is how it always tech up faster than you do. Especially, an Expert AI get such a great amount of resources that it can spam T3 units for several minutes without end. Easy and Normal AI is too weak and Expert cheats too much. Hard AI is what you want to fight against. However, Fighting against AI do not help at all when fighting human players. Realistically speaking, it is only useful at a skill level when you are have no knowledge of anything basic in this game. For example, what units each faction has? what each unit does? what abilities each of them have and what they do? what are combat mechanics in this game such as suppression and knockback? Beside those bottom basics, even the most basic tactics in this game has to be learnt by playing multiplayer matches vs human opponents. AI is completely incompetent. All AI units that can capture a resource point will focus on doing that only while largely ignoring your units when there are points in the map that they did not capture yet. Vehicle units cannot capture points therefore, they will attack your forces actively but they do it by charging right into your base while attacking other things units they spot on the way. This is something even the newbiest of humans will never do and the reason why no one can gain any skill from fighting an AI.

Power Nodes and Generators are no longer auto targetable as in units do not automatically attack them unless manually ordered to do so. This is to prevent units from wasting their shots on them when they could have wiped an enemy squad. This was introduced because completely destroying a unit or in other words wiping a unit in this game is very important. Unfortunately, this meant AI cannot power bash anymore. There is no technical solution that allows for AI to power bash while still maintaining nodes and generators from being non auto targetable.

- Below is the standard format for any multiplayer match. Anything other than this is not considered a proper match in competition.
Victory Point Control: 500 VPs
Starting Location: Random
Resources: Standard
