Do tactical marines have a built-in buff that activates in combat?

Postby Oddnerd » Sun 08 May, 2016 5:35 pm

Hi all, I've noticed that SM units - specifically tacs - will randomly receive a glowing yellow aura in the middle of combat without their commander using any ability (or at least it seems that way, maybe I am not paying close enough attention).

Is there some combat buff that activates on SM units, which is not a product of the commanders battlecry/apo stimulants?

Kraken rounds is all that there is IIRC.

At first I thought you were talking about the natural resistance to ranged damage that units get when they entire melee combat - that seems most obvious on tactical marines due to their higher hp and fewer models.

Sounds like Kraken rounds or some inspiration. Mostly likely Kraken.

When Force Commander uses Battle Cry, they have a bonus damage for a period. That might be it. Or '' For the Emperor! '' global too.

Assuming you can hear what they say at the moment it's activated, if they yell "Stand with your brothers!", it's Kraken Rounds. If they yell "For the Emperor!", it's the FC's global.

I didn't realize that kraken rounds had any visual effects aside from the red rounds. Maybe that is what I am seeing.

FTE has a very obvious and hard-to-miss visual indicator. It is not yellow but orange-fire-like. Tactical marines do gain inspiration from the Force Commander, Librarian, Dreadnoughts and Terminators. Were any of those around (apart from the FC ofc)?

Having checked the relevant game files, I can now say with almost 100% certainty that it must have been Kraken Rounds since it counts as a self-buff much like Embolden also causes Dire Avengers to have the yellow buff circle around them.

Cool, that makes sense. I had assumed Kraken rounds only made the bullets red.
