Wingblade's Elite Mastery Tournament
Posted: Sat 14 Nov, 2020 5:04 pm
Greetings and salutations Warhammer fans! My name is Wingblade and I am a relatively new dawn of war player, coming from competitive Dota.
I love competition and am always itching for an opportunity to play some good matches against good players from around my skill level. Tournaments while fun, can be very intimidating or even frustrating if not managed properly, therefore I have taken it upon myself to come up with a format that allows players from ANY skill level to rise to the occasion and play against their peers for the glory of the emperor.
If you have any feedback on the format or the way the tournament is run, I am very open to it!
1. When is the tournament?
The tournament will have 3 stages for different skill levels, the first one for beginners will take place on the 21st and 22nd of November (so next weekend).
The second stage for intermediate players will take place on 28/29 November.
The expert stage will take place on 5/6 December.
All matches are supposed to be played between 11:00CET and 23:59CET. You will potentially have to play 10 matches on a single day, so make sure you have time before signing up.
2. Entry requirements
ANY player can join as long as they have 5 recorded 1v1 matches played in the last month (this will be checked 1 day before the tournament starts, so you can sign up now and play your matches in the coming few days). This is to make sure seeding is fair and everyone has interesting matches. If you don't know what "recorded" means, check out https://dawnofwar.info/esl/register (you don't actually need to register, if you download the thing it will work), and download the esl reporter. You can easily play 5 matches in 2 hours if you currently have none, otherwise, there is always next time! You may even already have the matches reported because your opponent ran the esl reporter, check your profile on the elite ladder!
There are only 8 spots for the beginner phase, and 6 spots for the intermediate and expert phases, on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you sign up when all the spots are already filled up, you will be placed on the reserves list. There are not a lot of spots currently, but I will expand this in later tournaments.
MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE DATES AND TIMES TO MAKE SURE YOU CAN MAKE IT.
3. Tournament Format
The Elite Mastery tournament will have 3 stages for different skill levels. Each one of these stages will be double elimination tournaments. For the beginner and intermediate tournaments, the top 2 players will make it to the next stage (The players who win the losers- or winners Semifinal). This means that there is no official Grand Finals for the first 2 phases.
It is up to the players themselves to decide when (within the given timeframe) the matches are played. Join the Elite community discord to organize your matches. Failing to show up on the agreed-upon time, will cause one of the reserves to take your spot!
All matches are best of 3, except for the winners- and losers finals, which will be best of 5. The Grand finals of the expert phase will also be BO5. The tournament will be played on the newest available patch. The abuse of known bugs will result in a warning and then a suspension in the beginner's phase, and immediate suspension in the intermediate/expert stage.
A soundbug/steam desync before minute 10 will mean that the match gets replayed with same heroes/map, unless the game is already decided at that point. I leave this up to the players themselves and potential referees (who have the final say). After minute 10, a referee will decide who gets the win, unless both players agree to replay the match. If there is no referee available, and players don't agree on the result, the win will go to the player with the most VP's left. This tournament is about improving and fair play, take that into account.
On Saturday, the winners round 1, winners semifinal, the losers round 1, and losers round 2 will be played. On Sunday, the Winners final, the losers semifinal, and the losers final will be played. So take into account that you may have to play up to 3 BO3s on Saturday, and up to 1 BO3, and 1 BO5 (2 BO5's for the expert phase) on Sunday!
4. Game Mode, & map/hero picks
All games are 1v1, 500 VP. The picking order for the first match will be decided by a coinflip in the elite community discord. After the first match, the winning player has to pick first.
Map Picks:
Maps will be picked by the map picker in the elite mod community discord. Players may agree to ban up to 2 maps together; this means that when a map is rolled the map can be re-rolled up to twice per series as long as both players agree. This ban persists for the entire series.
The map pool is as follows:
Ashes of Typhon
Calderis Refinery
Green Tooth Gorge
Green Tooth jungle Rx
Judgement of Carrion
Leviathan Hive
Quests Heresy
Siwal Frontier
Fedrid Folly
Jarilos Forge
Vulcan Pits
Calderis Desert
Selenon Island
Seraph Palace
Players have 1 map veto per series. This means that after a map is rolled and there is no shared ban, either player can decide to veto the map once per series and reroll a new one. The first-picking player (player who has to pick his commander first) has to call a veto first, then the second player can call a veto. This veto only counts for 1 game.
Hero Picks:
For the beginner phase, you can pick any hero you want, as many times as you want. The winners of this phase will have to pick their 4 heroes, before the start of the next phase.
Intermediate and expert players have to pick 4 heroes each before the start of the tournament. You can play each hero up to 1 WIN per series. This means that if you lose you can pick the hero that you lost with again, but if you win you have to pick a different one.
Players have 1 hero veto per series. This means that once per series, AFTER their opponents pick a hero, a player can call a veto on that hero for a single match. Meaning that the opponent has to pick a different one.
5. Match reporting
In-game, both players will have to run the ESL reporter, and write "L" at the start of the game. After your series, 1 of the players will send me a private message on discord with the match result (Wingblade#9108).
6. Rules
Streaming:
Streaming is allowed ONLY with a 2 minute delay. We will try to stream the Winners finals, the losers finals, and the grand finals!
Cheating:
Any kind of cheating will lead to a lifetime ban. This decision is up to the organizer and admins and is not up for discussion.
Toxicity:
This tournament has a ZERO tolerance policy on toxicity. Trash talking in-game or in the lobby will result in a warning, and then a lifetime suspension. If you are playing a friend and like to have some banter during the match, let me know this BEFORE the series. Any kind of homophobia, racism, anti-Semitism, will lead to an immediate lifetime ban. These bans are up to the admin's/organizers discretion and are not up for discussion.
Smurfing:
Smurfing is not allowed and will lead to a lifetime suspension.
Spectating:
Spectating is allowed in non-finals matches. as long as both players agree.
