Monthly Random Tournament #18

Postby Swift » Sun 06 Sep, 2015 3:41 pm

For the last few tournaments Atlas has been trying and failing to prove his mettle as an organiser, so this time big boy Swift is stepping in to put things right. He doesn't even announce his tournaments for zog's sake.

The joking aside, let's introduce:

MONTHLY RANDOM TOURNAMENT #18

So as the title suggests, this month the twist on MRT is going to be that it's random. Not all random, maps will remain the same but hero picks will be randomly generated by the game.

It will be held on Saturday 26th September at 6pm GMT (because I'm thick it will still be 6pm if we're on daily savings) so that's 6pm in Britain, 7pm in central europe, 2pm east coast etc. There will be a countdown clock going up closer to the date.

Sign up here with your Steam name and link to your profile on Steam. If it's private please make it public or we can't look at it, you can make it private again later. Normally we'll say if we've seen your profile and give you the go ahead.
The MRT webpage is here: http://dawnofwar.info/index.php?page=tournaments/MRT-18, with links to the brackets and player list( ).

[UPDATE: 7th September] Randomised heroes do not have to be announced at the start of the game, which means you will not know what your opponent has picked until you encounter it, forcing players to be more reactionary.

Rules:
- Standard MRT rules apply:
- BO3 matchup until finals which is BO5
- First game is played on a set map chosen by the organisers, with the following map chosen by the loser of the previous game
- All players get one veto to use on any map their opponent picks
- Games are 500vps, random starting locations and standard resources
- All exploits ARE allowed, this includes Burn dat House which was previously disallowed due to a bug
- Record all your games by saving them after
- Each player gets twenty to thirty minutes leeway if they do not show up on time, with longer allowances being for instances when fewer people have show up on time
- You must be present in the MRT (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/dow2emrt) Steam group chat thirty minutes beforehand and during the tournament
- Any queries please contact a host or tournament organiser (generally someone with a gold star)

- The rule introduced this time regarding hero picks is that they will always be random. Both players are not required to announce anything but should just pick the "Random" option in the hero selection tab in game. You are NOT allowed to randomise heroes via other means such as random name generators or asking a tournament host to choose one for you, this is to prevent any inconsistencies in random algorithms and biases.

Player list:
- Dark Riku
- Kvek
- BioTaq
- PaperBaG
- Noisy
- Red Beard

Reserve:
- Wise Windu

Streams:
- BBBOS
- Max Power (plus co-caster)
- Adila (POV)

Map Pool:
- Ashes of Typhon
- Calderis Refinery
- Fedrid Folly
- Green Tooth Gorge
- Imperial Plaza
- Judgment of Carrion
- Leviathan Hive
- Quest's Heresy
- Siwal Frontier
- Green Tooth Jungle Redux - Fixed Version
- Jarilo's Forge
- Lugganath Glacier (8-))

Administration:
Brackets and hero picks pages as well as an MRT#18 page will be going up as of tomorrow (Monday 7th September). Streamers and casters will be contacted within a week or more to be invited to cast the tournament.

Want to Help?:
If you are interested in being a referee to help alleviate any concerns players may have or to observe their games please do say. Also if you have a stream and want to explicitly say so please do here, the more streamers the merrier. Anyone who can also update brackets on the day would also be very welcome.

To wrap up:
Good hunting out there, hopefully we can gather a good amount of interest with this slightly different formula. And hopefully Atlas will learn how a real tournament is run.

The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

If Lugganath Glacier isn't going to be round 1 first map I'll be disappointed.

MRT#18 page is up: http://dawnofwar.info/index.php?page=tournaments/MRT-18

Rules addendum: Just because heroes are randomised does not mean you must inform your opponent of what they are at the start of the game. This makes more a more "veiled" approach to the game and forces players to be much more reactionary. It also pisses them off which makes for better viewing quality.

Don't bother, nothing's happening here. Unless anyone wants to take my place as organiser, I'm killing the tournament now and ending all involvement I have with it.

More of the latter, but also not enough people caring to sign up.

And yes Atlas, I failed.
