Post your character!

Postby Caeltos » Fri 30 Aug, 2013 8:05 pm

Long story short, post your character here for the new game mode.

Concept;
There are two sides to play, attackers & defenders. The Defenders are "Loyalist", and then there are "Traitor Marines". The Defenders will primarily consist of "Hero" units, which will be able to level up, equip wargears and all that stuff. The defenders pick 2x Hero commanders.

The Attackers on the other hand, have an incredible resource income and will be able to continous ramp up their attack by teching up.

I have plans to implement "Point of Interest" on the location, to not simply just make it a camp fest on one location. And since there will be to some degree, base building implemented (hopefully), I'm thinking of really enforcing some team-play into the general game.

Now, this is just going to be a pretty crazy game, but I'd love to do it abit of a community favor, and implement "characters" from the community. However, I'll only really care about the ones that are "serious", and by that I mean I won't listen to the ones like

** SPACE MARINES + IMPERIAL GUARD // GREY KNIGHTS ARE DEFINATELY IN, BUT ORK/ELDAR MIGHT GET A PASS **

Bad Example:
- Lord BabyBalloonKiller2014 Mustasch
- Abilities: #SWAGYOLO42 - Kills everyone on the map including himself.

Good Example
- Deathrain - Space Marine Devastator Hero (Tarkus head)
* Specializes in long range weapon fire-support, able to quickly halter the advance of the enemy.
* Abilities; "Devastation: Causes all bullets to temporarily deal area of effect damage *

So yeah, fire away. I'd love to hear what people have go to say. :-)

What do you exactly mean as a character? Race/kind of hero and a background story to it?

I think we are going to need a bit more exposition here^^

Are we talking about "generic" Heroes like the Multiplayer commanders?

Or ones with a bit of a theme / name / backstory, similar to Dota/Moba ones?

Updated OP abit.

Are we talking about "generic" Heroes like the Multiplayer commanders?

You'll have to be realistic on what we can do, so trying to use existing assets and mixing them up abit is an idealistic approach. Obviously requesting a completely new model & stuff is too bit much of an hassle.

Or ones with a bit of a theme / name / backstory, similar to Dota/Moba ones?

Sometimes the background/story can serve a purpose to help flourish and design the unit/character itself with it's abilities and theme. But it's definately not a requirement AT ALL, since it's not a campaign, and there's no "real" narrative, except that you just have to "Survive", or "Slaughter" shaningans.

Sounds cool enough and idk if I understood any of it right but heres my super serious "character" anyway.

Abilities: assault barrage, emperor's fist, self repair (similiar to wraithbone? go offline to regen health) charge?

:D

/fuck imgeshack anyway

Edit: and I want a sync kill in which the dread flushes a model!

Got to ask, what about "Vehicled" Commanders?

Like a Dreadnought? Or a Tank Ace?

Well, Dreadnoughts are probably the more recognizeable, as far as tank commanders. That's a slight MAYBE. I know there's a mounted-gunner in the works, and I think it works. Not sure on how much you can edit and fiddle with it tho.

So this is like a The Last Stand game mode except a human gets to play the mobs/creeps/whatever the correct slang word is?

It's planned to be ALOT more open. And you can switch out gear while playing, and level whilst you're fighting. Think of it more like a semi-RPG / Last Stand with mission objectives. You'll have to get a good match with your teammates with heroes and operate accordingly. You might find yourself low on resources, and you're going to need to send something to snatch resources, or other misc. bonuses, but the attackers won't simply allow you to just walk around as you please.

How about a Chaplain? The model can be used from the Legion and the Damned models with an Iron Halo on top of the back pack, since they already have got the skull helmets and skeleton theme.

He's kind of similar, I suppose, to the Force Commander, in that he's going to be doing decent melee with the crozius while doing a lot of ally inspiring and enemy demoralizing.

Edit: Meant Legion of the Damned not Lost and the Damned. Always get those two names mixed up

Hard to properly design things without knowing the mechanics, but I guess you're just looking for some general ideas to work with:

Votarius
[Death Guard]

Dreadnought, Favored of Nurgle. Very durable but painfully slow. Armed with an autocannon that does DoT. Slowly regenerates HP. Good at dealing with clumps of infantry, but rather weak against other vehicles.

Abilities:
Infectious Corrosion (passive) - Damages anything that attacks Votarius in melee combat with a DoT effect

Zaelus, The Slaying Hand
[Emperor's Children]

Slaanesh Champion, master swordsman. Mobile melee character that specialises in taking down enemy characters and high value infantry targets. Relatively low health. Vulnerable to high burst damage, vehicles and crowd control/disruption.

Abilities:
Dispatch - Deals heavy damage to a single infantry target, is charged up by Zaelus dealing damage in melee combat
Duelist (passive) - 20% chance to avoid melee damage

Draegeth, Herald of Nurgle
[Death Guard]

Plague Lord (Shuma's model). Walks through cover, cannot be suppressed. High HP and HP regen when out of combat. Armed with a splash damage scythe/halberd that causes enemies that it kills to explode, leaving a DoT on the ground where they died. A constant threat to the enemy, Dreageth must be carefully controlled and shot down. A large target, so vulnerable to heavy weapons and can be especially vulnerable if isolated without support.

Abilities:
Aura of Pestilence - Deals DoT to surrounding enemies for a short duration, Draegeth's speed is reduced.
Decay (passive) - Passively slows nearby enemies

Gorlak Karesh
[Black Legion]

A Chosen Chaos Space Marine that specialises in ranged combat. Can choose between a variety of combi-weapons that allow him to activate an ability which changes weapon type. (not sure if there are suitable models for combi-weapons, or if anyone would care).

Abilities:
(Depends on combi-weapon chosen)
e.g. if you choose Combi-Plasma, he'd have an ability to fire plasma shots for a duration.
Dark Command - Increases ranged damage of nearby allied infantry.

Falgrath, The Bloodborn
[World Eaters]

Savage berserker armed with Chain Axe and melta pistol. Long melee charge and cannot be suppressed (no fear). Great for spearheading armies with Feel No Pain and butchering groups of infantry, but can turn on allies. Deals splash damage with each strike.

Abilities:
Feel No Pain - Ignores damage for a short duration
Blood Rage - Has a 10% chance to turn uncontrollable for 5s after making a melee kill (does not trigger if Feel No Pain is active)
Bathe in Blood - Targeted AoE attack (like Merciless Strike)

My first Try for an original Character,
this is what went through my head so far.

( too exotic? )

Penal Legioner / or Ex-Sergeant Dunnett

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Penal_Legion#.UiEcIjbWNWA

Image

Model:

A mix between Guardsmen, Katachan and Sergeant Merrick - in good old "prison orange"

Gameplay:

A high risk, high reward Hero with a self destructive playstyle.
The Life of a Guardsman has no high weight in the eyes of the Imperium. Even more so the life of a Penal Legioner.

Potential Weapons:

Pistol and Combat Knife
Shotgun
Flamethrower

- The Penal Legioner should have to get upclose to be most effective.

Potential Abilities and Wargear:

Explosive Slave Collar
- Cowardice will not be tolerated. Failure is not an Option. Upon retreat or death the Legioner's explosive collar will be activated, taking every foe ( or friend ) too close with him.

Electric Shock Collar
- Sometimes you just want to remind a Penal Legioner of his position. The electric shock collar will slow its wearer's movement speet to a crawl but at the same time discharge against enemies if they get too close.

Fire at my Position
- The only hope to redeem yourself is by glorious, heroic death.
The Legioner will call in an Basilisk Strike at his exact position. Either get out of the way quickly or risk getting blown to bits by your own artillery.

Frenzon
- Many Soldiers of a Penal Legion are pumped with Combat Drugs, giving a boost to movement speed / attack speed / leadership but draining away the users health.

The Crime is Mutation
- Being a mutant is a crime in the eyes of the Imperium and many mutants fill the ranks of the Penal Legion; either by being disfigured or psychic.
The Legioner fires a destructive shockwave of pure warp energy in a 360° Radius.

Not sure if this pertains specifically to the question / request for heroes, but personally as a fan of TT (which I am assuming most people are, or at least were at some stage) I think it would be awesome to see of the TT commanders in the game. I think it would be brilliant to see Commander Dante, Eldrad, etc., in the game. Is this something that you have given any thought to (I am aware that you want it to have a "community" feel, but may be an option as a few generic options).

I realise that there may be some issues in relation to copyright, licencing, general intellectual property issues, but in my experience I would imagine that these could be by-passed with relative ease through simple name changes.

Regardless, I think this is a brilliant idea. Wouldn't mind seeing some Commander Dante-esq type hero (melta, jump pack, death mask (having the same effect as the Lictor Alpha's accessory which causes other units to flee (the name escapes me), iron halo).

I like Orkfaeller's suggested hero as well

I absolutely love the Penal stuff, sounds like such a wicked concept.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this, and as far as "license" and all that stuff goes, I don't think there's much to debate there, I don't think you'd be stepping on anyones toes, considering there's already a mod out that has replicated it already, and had no repercussions, and we're talking a good 1-2 years ago.

But yeah, gotta be realistic and approach the models visually tho, can't have Dante looking as an standard-issued ASM or something. That'd just be insulting.

^makes me wonder,

Abaddon as we see him in the cutscenes / dialogue scenes ...

is his model actually somewhere in the game files?

I know Elena Derosa's model for example is actually in the game ( atleast her head and part of her torso )

Couldn't agree more - nothing worse than creating Dante, only to lose him amongst other ASMs!!
Could be possible to differentiate him from other ASM by utilising the 'glow' that accompanies commanders; if i remember correctly, in DoW Soulstorm, you could purchase wargear that amplified this glow and really made the commander stick out. Would it be possible to use this technique/concept from Soulstorm?
The only other detail with regards to the visual affects that might be difficult would be the mask of Sanguinius/Death Mask, but tbf, not unless you play the whole game zoomed in on him, probably not a deal breaker.

Anyway, don't want to turn this into a "How awesome is Commander Dante" thread, but nice to know that some thought has been given to the TT commanders :)

Jonah Orion.
Staffs and force swords.
Switch between physic hoods (more abilities) and librarian armor(more durability)
smite, ignite soul some possible ranged abilities.
Might of ancients and avenger some possible melee abilities.
all these are found in Chaos rising, but the general idea would be a glass cannon who requires good energy management to stay alive.
Other options would be teleport and physic shield(iron halo)

Sorry this just occured to me, but two Chapter Master terminator commanders would be sweet.
Logan Grimar and The chapter master of the salamanders (forgot his name???)
Logan uses Bro-cap animations with a big two handed power axe, really tough, gives some inspiration and buffs to allies.
Vulkan (that's what I'm calling him, yes I know it's the primarch) would use terminator animations. Has a really good heavy flamer and a powerfist. ranged buffs/ buffs to heat based weapons (plasma, melta, flamer)

The Penal Legion unit/guy would be awesome.

Would be cool to have a Commissar or Lord General with an uncontrollable Ogryn bodyguard (like Neddor Deddog) who goes ballistic if the character falls.

Officio Assassinorum stuff would be sweet if there were suitable models.

You could make pretty much anything in WH40k into a cool character!

Are we limiting ourselves to Imperium characters, because the IW Warsmith Honsou would be cool if that wasn't the case.

A Sentinel Hero. I havent slept all night so this one is propably all over the place but it is really something I'd like to see,
but I dont really know how myself : /

First Question - how to make it work from a gameplay perspective.
How much more could you do with a Sentinel without heavy modding, beside the couple of things that are allready in the game?

We got a Multilaser, a Misslelauncher with two fire modes and a Stomp. What could one add to it?

Second - how to turn it into a "character".

My first idea to make this one stand out more against the vanilla sentinels is making the Pilot female. I think that could give a bit of spice.

Name:

- Leftenent Rora / Sentinel Ace

Model:

- Sentinel

Voiceset:

- Inquistor ( - Deathkorp version? )

Background:

- From Scouts to mobile Weapon Platforms, Sentinel Pilots are expected to fulfill plentiful roles on the battlefield.
And there are no Pilots more battlehardened than Armageddon's.
And no Pilot on Armageddon is more battlehardened than Leftenent Rora from the 808th Steel Legion Regiment.

Gameplay:

- A mobile Hero that can both Support or Harrass. Fights in ranged combat and cannot suppressed.

Weapons:

- Multilaser
- Misslelauncher
- dont know how complicated it is to mount lets say a Las Cannon onto it, so... not much to say here...

Abilities / Wargear:

- Smokescreen
Launches Smoke Grenades that cover you allies and protect them from ranged damage.

- Flare
Fires a Flare Grenade that blinds your enemys, reducing their range.

- Stomp
Knocks down and stuns enemies in close range.

- Mighty Stomp
A good Pilot knows the limits of his machine.
A truly Skillfull one knows when to push beyond those limits.
Mighty Stomp increases range, damage, knockback and stun duration; but the brute force of the attack will cause damage to the Sentinels hydraulics leaving it slowed / stunned afterwards.

The Sentinel can pick on the following
- Mobile Fire Base
Allows the Sentinel to Supercharge his weapons for increased attacksspeed
- Artillery Spotter
Allows the Sentinel call in devastating Air / Artillery Strikes
- Scout
Allows the Sentinel to Cloak and mark target enemies to take more damage.

Finally two quick ideas, how to make a Sentinel a bit more unique looking;
A "kill count" version and a Nose-art one.
Simple retex / custom decal thing.

Anyways since you alredy made a power klaw for comissar lord how about we just bring Commissar Yarrick himself to this game mode?

I have to echo Toilailee - some great ideas being floated around!

How about a death company sargent-esq type hero? Abilities and wargear could include:

- Red-thirst - when activated, significantly increases the charge range, and speed of the hero (imagine banshees on crack, with charge range of Purifiers); however, automatically charges the nearest enemy unit.

- Feel No Pain - hero ignores wounds that would otherwise mortally wound the hero; reduces damage taken by the hero by ALL weapons, but reduces speed (similar in effect to ATSKNF, but damage reduction applies to all weapon types)

- Visions of the Primarch - grants the hero unrivaled strength, emulating that of Sanguinius; greatly increases the hero's melee power. Allows hero to damage vehicles with wargear that otherwise wouldn't (e.g. chainsword); however, for the duration of the ability, can ONLY attack the enemy unit initially chosen.

- Angel of Death - would allow for the hero, when equipped with a jump pack, to "double jump"; this would allow the hero to jump into an enemy unit, and instantly jump either to another unit / back out of combat (essentially would allow the hero to disrupt either two units with the jump, or disrupt a unit, and immediately retreat).

Feel free to add / critique the above. Wargear could include jump pack, double chainsword (similar to Banshee exarch's mirror sword), death mask, dual handed master crafted power axe. This build could also be potentially used for a member of the Sanguinary Guard (however, same visual problems could arise with Sanguinary Guard as with Dante)
