I'd like them to start from DOW2, but then widen the scope a bit, to COH-like engagement sizes. More boots on the ground, slightly more buildings, and also an assault-maps like co-op mode

Actually he used to answer PMs on RN, so it might be worth a shot to try and contact him there. That's how i got the speechmanager tool tuned for DOW2 (Even more thanks and hats off to him!)

Out of curiosity, how DOW1's animations compare to DOW2's? could they be used or they look too stiff?

You could try rigging it to the Swarmlord skeleton, woudl fix a lot of issues, i believe. The swarmlord moves like a digitigrade and has "weapons" in its "hands", too.

I could swear Garrick had a model that fit the Crusader at some point. It was a guy with a black cape+hood and some kind of carapace armor, and a power sword. The model for the Operatives actually wasn't the one I was expecting to get. I wish there were still a picture of it on his thread on RelicN...

Those models are gorgeous, but there is one small problem: Polycount.

At a glance, they all look much more detailed than the average DOW2 model, and would thus look out of place.

As i said in the mod's thread, i will release the Steel Legion and the Kasrkin as soon as i have a complete pack going, although i'm very busy at this time so progress is very slow. But I will release them!

The guy that should get the lion's share of the kudos is James Son, Relic's lead audio editor, though! It was he who suggested me this approach,

a) It is possible
b) You need them in .fsb format
c) name is irrelevant, properfilepath and relative speechcode are what matters.
