in 1v1 , you want a rhino by simple nature of how much more spread out the units are in the early game than in other modes. but on smaller maps and the vast majority of the 2v2 / 3v3 maps , the rhino is not always a good choice. You're forced to go dual IST at the least in order to maintain proper map control and/or be able to deal with melee squads/heroes (becuase often you want a rhino there and you need 2 IST to repair that thing). ist do 6.4 dps , shootas do 7 and guardians do 8, keep in mind that ist have a much shorter firing time and a much longer reload time. three of them can alpha kill scout models on the first firing cycle. the difference in total dps is only noticeable between gu and ist , but not ist and shoota boys...

My vote is for making it a slow rather than 100% immobilization. That way at least you can suppress or slow the FC to move your vehicle away and it won't spin in place like a tard.

Just throwing an idea out there. If single target dps is a problem, how about granting a purge-like effect (increases damage taken by 20-25% or so) to an existing ability? Say SS energy burst or Purgation slow That'd be a bit too much.. the energy burst already drains enery and slows down targets, ...

The main problem of the inferno cannon is that it doesn't 1 shot units nor threathens vehicles like the melta, while having similar if not lower range, considering it doesn't have melee resistence and it's supposed to be a blob counter it should be able to pay off for the risk of getting that close...

i find it interesting that you compare ist to dire avengers, considering that avengers have the same base hp per model and do 1.5ish more dps per model. sure its not as spiky a damage vector like the ist las rifles are but its still better dps. the upgrade the dire avengers gets puts their hp only ...

Only claw dread has the melee resistance aura... I totally forgot that, you are certainly correct, in which case it doesn't make it extremely hard to counter with melee, though I still do fear it's ability to counter set up teams with its means of the flamer being able to take an impact off the ran...

What about making the Inferno Cannon upgrade more of a suppression platform and less about the damage and AoE? We can debate whether or not a 500/120/0 (GK Dread) unit should have a flame weapon with more dps than a 350/60/150 unit (Banewolf) all day, but I think the real competition for the Infern...

Gonna need to be a lot more specific on psilencers/conversion beamer. Suppression weapons? setup time? long ranged av snare like a lascannon? VA overshadows them for sure, but you've only got one.
